about us: lichfield skatepark association was formed in september 2006 partly in response to the lichfield mercury headline 'asbo warning to nuisances on wheels'. the lichfield skatepark committee believe that the skateboarders and bmx'ers of lichfield deserve a suitable skatepark facillity if they are to be expected to 'stay out of the city'
it is the opinion of the association that instead of being criminalized,the young people of lichfield should be encouraged to pursue a healthy and creative pastime in the safety of a well designed skatepark. the skatepark association has so far put forward this view by staging a number of succesful fund and awareness raising events and the collecting of a petition signed by over 3000 supporters.we held a very well attended public meeting in december 2006 where we gained the full support of our project by our local member of parliment michael fabricant.the association have also paid for top american skatepark designer wally hollyday to visit lichfield in may 2007.
why does lichfield need a skatepark? we believe that the young people of lichfield have been ignored for too many years now. how can youngsters be blamed for causing problems when no alternatives are being provided for them? we believe a high quality skatepark is an ideal way of providing the young people of lichfield an alternative. a skatepark will provide somewhere for local people to keep fit,busy,sociable and out of trouble. we believe a quality skatepark would be a substantial asset for lichfield. by providing a facility we would be giving an alternative to the youngsters of lichfield and would be encouraging them to avoid the boredom that usually results in trouble. we should provide an attractive area for youngsters to enjoy their chosen sport instead of expecting them to disapear, keep quiet and become obese. many of the young people of lichfield are sceptical that the city is capable of building a state of the art skatepark, for lichfield is seen as a boring, sleepy historic city that resists change. a first class skatepark would change all of that and give the young people of lichfield something to be proud of! join us! we need your support! please email us at;
